Formative Assessment
Part of a process indtended to guide instructional decisions for indiviudal students while lessons are still occurring. The measuremnts used reflect the instructional focus for students and provides feedback for teachers, who "form" or adjust ongoing instruction.
Assessment System
Process used to identify, diagnose, and monitor reading development
Diagnostic Assessment
Administered to studetns identified through the screening process as potential struggling readers or points during the year when students are not making adequoate progres. Provide detailed inforation about a student's reading development to help pinpoint potential cuaseds of difficulty and speciicic information to deelop an indiviudal intervention plan.
Informal Reading Inventories
Indivudally administered assessments of a student's ability to orally or silently read, retull, and answer questions about reading selections. At times, pasages are read to the student to determine a listening comprehension level. Administral requires extensive training to ensure that results are vali and reliable.
Progress Monitoring Assessments
Administed throughout the school year to determine a student's progress toward instructional goals and to help plan differentiated instruction. Criterion-referenced assessment, which is administed regularly, a minimum o fthree times per year, especially at criticically decision-making points, such as regrouping students. Occurrs frequently, as needed, for studens at-risk to detemrine growth or improvement.
